A new research building connected to Argonne National Laboratory's Advanced Photon Source (APS) providing space for research involving nanoscale and microscale materials. The building houses class 100 and class 1,000 clean rooms, wet, dry and bio laboratories, offices and support functions including a computer room.

This project has been submitted for LEED Certification for New Buildings by the US Green Building Council.

• Low velocity variable air volume (VAV) laboratories and offices including VAV fume hoods
• Low velocity supply air systems for energy savings, two-stage heat recovery system to provide heating of outside air utilizes waste heat from the adjacent APS Building and this building's laboratory exhaust system
• Chilled water and high temperature hot water from APS central plant
• Gas-fired clean steam boiler for humidification
• Air handling systems feature HEPA filtration and clean-steam humidification.
• Computer room with UPS and computer room cooling units
• Piped process lab services including RO water, process cooling water, compressed air, vacuum and nitrogen
• Clean and controlled environments; all air handling systems utilize HEPA filtration and clean-steam humidification.
• Clean power requirements
• Vibration sensitive research required low vibration level in building

• Mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design for the lab and office systems.
• Energy modeling of build to utilize the DOE 2.1 energy analysis program.
